STANTON MOORE: Drummer, Performer, and #1 Educator of the New Orleans Groove
At the Savannah Music Festival, April 1 and 2, 2023!
Stanton Moore was only eight months old when he first heard the hypnotic drums of a Mardi Gras parade. And he’s been sharing his love for drums and the unique groove of The Big Easy ever since. Not just in his native New Orleans, but all around the world.
Born in nearby Metairie, Louisiana, and growing up to the sounds of vibrant New Orleans music, the Grammy Award winner rose to fame as a founding member of Galactic, a New Orleans-based progressive jazz funk band. He’s also released several solo records and works with his own band, The Stanton Moore Trio. He’s recorded with a wide variety of artists and bands including Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), soul queen Irma Thomas, and the heavy metal band Corrosion of Conformity.
In a career spanning more than 25 years, this highly-respected drummer has a passion for an even greater musical calling: teaching the New Orleans groove to the next generation of drummers. Stanton has logged thousands of miles around the world teaching the New Orleans drumming groove in clinics, writing regularly for drumming magazines, and creating instructional books and DVDs. In 2011, he released the popular Groove Academy educational series and won Modern Drummer’s Reader’s Poll for “Best Educational Book” and “Best Educational DVD.”
Six years later, Stanton took his passion of teaching to a new level when he established the innovative Stanton Moore Drum Academy. It’s described as an online educational community for drummers (and teachers) of all styles and all levels, from beginners to pros. A natural-born teacher, Stanton relishes sharing his knowledge and talent and interacting with his students. Through a community forum, you can ask Stanton questions and even submit videos for his comments. Without a doubt, Stanton Moore is one of the most gifted Gretsch Ambassadors helping to support the Gretsch family’s mission of “Enriching lives through participation in music.” Thank you, Stanton!
